1817 Silver 3-Guilder Pattern Sold For €36,000
2015-12-10 Thu
One of 12 specimens, an 1817 silver 3-Guilder pattern was sold at a Schulman B. V. Auction for €36,000. The coin was designed by the French artist, Auguste Francois Michant. In 1815, Michant was appointed as a medallist to the court of King William I of Holland. In 1816, he was commissioned to design the bust of the king for 10, 3, and half guilder coins. The 3-guilder die was test-struck on tin planchets; however, the design was rejected by the king’s minister as the portrait did not resemble the king accurately.Latest News
